Cockerel Triumphant
How do you say cock-a-doodle-doo in French? Cocorico apparently. Stupid language. Jerry artist Katharina Fritch is cock-a-hoop because Westminster Council has granted planning permission for her 14ft ultramarine blue cockerel Hahn - the French national emblem - to flit up to the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square on 20 June. This flies in the face of the Thorney Island Society, which dismissed the fibreglass sculpture as "a feeble distraction". "Some have cried 'Sacre Bleu'" admits Alastair Moss, the Council's planning and development chairman, but he rejects that it is a Franco-German cock-up (CLICK).
