Brits High in New York

Sotheby’s New York flogged 20th century British art to the tune of £10,900,180 ($22,107,745) last weekend. Not only was this a new record for a Sotheby’s auction of 20th c. Brit. art, but also it established new records for 25 British artists, including Sir Winston Churchill, whose oil painting Chartwell Landscape with Sheep went under the hammer (Lot 21).
