It's sad to learn that artist, writer and TV broadcaster Tony Hart has suffered two strokes which have left him unable to draw. He cannot even sign his name. Having appeared on art programmes for nearly 50 years, he was forced to retire in 2001 due to ill health. Now 83, he is being looked after by two live-in carers at his home. His books and TV programmes popularized art and encouraged novices in ways that the many phonies of the art world cannot begin to emulate.
