Eagle Nebula

Here's another of those images that show science beating art at its own game. Europe's Herschel space telescope has produced this brilliant picture of the Eagle Nebula, designated M16, a vast region of gas and dust approximately 6,500 light years from Earth, a birthplace for new stars.
