Mantegna to Matisse

The Courtauld Gallery in London boats one of the largest collections of drawings in Britain, with over 7,000 works from the Renaissance to the 20th Century. It has selected 60 of the best for Mantegna to Matisse: Master Drawings from The Courtauld Gallery, which opens on 14 June and runs until 9 September (CLICK). The fine example shown above is Peter Paul Rubens' Helena Fourment (c.1630-1631). Entry costs £6 for adults or £4.50 for silver surfers. That's cheaper than some of the junk exhibitions on offer around London.

Exquisite with attention to detail. Better than the Turner Prize entrants. Cheap tickets.

And this is just a preparatory drawing for a painting! It's a masterwork in itself. That's a real artist.
