Winter Wonderland

It's that time of year when the more foolhardy amongst us suddenly develop a liking for ice and snow. You can keep it as far as I'm concerned. If you're hankering for the cold stuff in London, Hyde Park Winter Wonderland is open for business (CLICK). It's free to enter, but you have to buy tokens for the wide variety of attractions. Top of the list is The Magical Ice Kingdom, crafted from over 200 tons of ice and snow over four months by 20 sculptors. The picture shows a sculptor working on an Ice Unicorn. There's an ice castle, a stalagmite forest inhabited by ice bears, wolves, stags, owls, foxes and rabbits, a dragon's lair and even an ice queen in her throne room. Don't ask me how much it costs to explore this magical land of ice sculptures, because the official website is snowed under! The last day is 6 January.

Some of the best ice sculptures are in Canada in a competition.

The best are in Alaska. That's where the World Ice Art Championships are held. Try searching "Alaska" on my blog. I've posted some crackers.
