New 2014 Coins

As this year sees the centenary of the outbreak of World War I, we can expect numerous reminders. The Royal Mint has unveiled its new coins for 2014, which includes this £2 coin showing Lord Kitchener's call to arms: Your Country Needs YOU. This is truly an iconic image that summoned millions of young men to the battlefields, to experience the horrors of life in bombarded trenches and to be commanded by ignorant old generals who thought charging machine guns with fixed bayonets was the way to wage war.
