Americans in Paris

Now he's something Yanks can take pride in: Americans in Paris, 1860-1900. This ground-breaking exhibition opened to critical acclaim at London's National Gallery earlier this year, then moved to Boston. Today it opened at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and will continue until 28 January 2007. This is its last showing, so grab your chance while you can. Highly recommended. Note for Yankee feminists: Mary Cassatt - one of the featured artists - was the only woman accepted into the all-male preserve of 19th century Impressionism. A ground-breaker in her own right, she paved the way for modern female artists.
