Rodin's Erotic Art

Auguste Rodin - Femme nue sur le dos, maintenant les cuisses écartées (ca 1900)You recall the recent banning of Sarah Horsfall's lovely nudes from The Great Christmas Art Fair? Well, Sarah asked me to look at her nudes to suggest what might have caused that rejection. I played Devil's Advocate and made a few comments, but the best I could come up with were along the lines of too realistic or it's in the trousers of the beholder! Sarah's nudes are tasteful and inoffensive, which is why their rejection was a puzzle. Now look at this sketch by Rodin, which sits bang on the dividing line between art and pornography. If this were a photograph, I would classify it as porn. and wouldn't have published it. If it were a finished painting, I would be doubtful and might have withheld it. But, as a rough sketch by an artist of Rodin's stature, it must be art and art of historical importance. So here it is, one of 140 such works to be found in the Musée Rodin, Paris: Rodin, The Eros figures - Erotic Drawings and Watercolors 1890-1917, a major exhibition which continues until 18 March 2007. I'd love to comment but Net Nanny is barring access. Likewise with your next blog. Something to do with the words "Doll", "Teddie", "toy" and "games" but I can't think why.
Can you help?

It's probably all Miffy's fault: sounds aggressive.
