Antonio Canova

On Wednesday I posted a graphic of Antonio Canova's Dancer, currently on display at the Hermitage Rooms, Somerset House, London (CLICK). Today I found out that the Borghese Gallery in Rome is celebrating the 250th anniversary of the birth of Antonio Canova with a major exhibition of his art: Canova and La Venere Vincitrice. Sixteen of his finest marble sculptures have been borrowed from around the world, including The Three Graces from the State Hermitage Museum in Russia, with many additional works to illustrate his method of work: drawings, paintings, clay models and plaster casts. If you're visiting Rome, this exhibition is a treat not to be missed. It continues until 3 February 2008.
