Madeleine: Six Months

Madeleine McCann's Eyes (photo 2007)It is six months since Madeleine McCann was abducted in Praia da Luz, six months wasted by Portuguese cops making so many blunders that one wonders whether they were seeking Madeleine or protecting her abductor. Two of the thugs who interrogated the McCanns have been removed from the case and face criminal charges. Paulo Rebelo, the Lisbon detective who cracked the Casa Pia orphanage child sex abuse case, is now leading the inquiry, but will Portugal's elite allow him to crack this case? In a revealing article for the Mail, Andrew Malone and Vanessa Allen wrote: "Amid allegations that paedophile networks have become endemic in Portugal ... Interpol has named the country as one of the worst offenders in Europe ..." (CLICK). They also quote Mrs Costa Macedo, referring to the caretaker at Casa Pia: "He was a procurer of children for well-known people who range from diplomats and politicians to people linked to the media." This might explain why the McCanns have had such a bad press in Portugal. It might also explain why a Portuguese newspaper hired a quack shrink to spout rabid psycho-babble against the McCanns when they recently appeared on Spanish TV. Still fancy a holiday in sunny Portugal, a land fit for paedophiles?
