Tate's Promenade
Coxsoft Art has likened modern "art" installations to fairgrounds. According to Lisa Jardine in a BBC Magazine article, today's visitor to an art gallery is indulging in the Victorian pastime of promenading: donning their finest clothes and parading around some fashionable spot, doffing their hats to the the bigwigs flaunting their wealth. Seen in this light, Doris's Crack is the perfect exhibit, because there is nothing even vaguely arty to get in the way of the promenading twits. Has Sir Nick got it sussed after all? Abandon art and appeal to the snobs.
