The Art Fund's £1m
Here's an example of how our priorities need to change (see next post down). Yesterday it was announced that The Art Fund has donated £1m toward the £50m needed to buy Titian's Diana and Actaeon (1556-59) from the Duke of Sutherland, who needs to raise £100m because he's feeling the pinch. This is the largest single donation for an individual work of art in the charity's 105-year history. Only another £49m to go before the deadline of 31 December. How many children will die of starvation before that deadline is met?
