Nude Sports & Cartoons
Two intriguing exhibitions open this month at the National Portrait Gallery in London. First there's Quiz: Sketches And Cartoons by Powys Evans from 4 October to 1 March 2009. Quiz was one of the top political cartoonists of the 1920s. This is a case display in Room 31 (CLICK). Next there's Champions: Sporting Portraits by Anderson & Low in Room 40 from 30 October to 18 January 2009. The term "Sporting Portraits" has a double meaning, because all these champions were good sports to allow themselves to be photographed in the buff. And why not? Sport is supposed to be a celebration of the human body and the only way to celebrate it properly is in the nude. Beautiful portrait of Venus Williams!
