Art Fund Stamps

The Royal Mail (title link) is going bananas on stamp issues this week. Tomorrow it issues its Christmas 2008 stamps, which feature pantomime characters. It will also be reissuing last year's Madonna & Child Christmas stamps to silence those people who complain that it's forgotten the true meaning of Christmas (the worship of Mammon). Then on 6 November it will issue a set of stamps to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Armistice that ended World War I: Lest We Forget. The Art Fund has come up with another idea. It wants Royal Mail to issue stamp designs by official war artist Steve McQueen. These show portraits of service men and women killed in the conflict in Iraq. The example above shows Corporal Ben Nowak, Royal Marines, who died on 12 November 2006, aged 27 (CLICK).
