Petrobelli Altarpiece
Last week the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London brought together the four known surviving pieces of the Petrobelli Altarpiece, painted by Paolo Veronese for Antonio & Girolamo Petrobelli around 1565. This luminous masterpiece was cut up like a worn-out carpet in the 1780s and sold to different buyers! (It seems to have fallen afoul of a religious purge.) Some pieces are still missing. The body of Saint Michael - head shown - hasn't been located. The exhibition continues until 3 May (title link).
