Sargent's Charcoal

Powis Castle has paid £50,000 for John Singer Sargent's charcoal drawing of The Hon. Violet Lane Fox, Baroness Darcy de Knayth, Countess of Powis (c.1910-1914). The Art Fund granted £25,000 toward the purchase price (title link). Sargent's charcoal drawings are magnificent. CLICK to view his two charcoal portraits of Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon long before she became the Queen Mother.

Hi, Walter

By a strange coincidence my latest post is about a Dover Art book on Sargent's drawings. The link I give is to Amazon UK. I'm sure you'll find copies in the USA Amazon, if not your local library.

The title link on this post takes you to ArtDaily, which has a much higher resolution picture.

The two of the Queen Mother as a young woman are in the Royal Collection and have only emerged once in a public exhibition. You might contact the Royal Collection and see if it is willing to provide a hi-res image. I had to ask permision before posting those two images, hence my grovelling thanks to Her Majesty.

I tend to bin larger versions of the images I use on my blog, to save memory.

I hope the above information helps.
