Wedding Clerics

Still thinking of silly hats, the Dean is tickled pink. This is the lineup of bores who actually made me feel sorry for William and Kate. It's bad enough to listen to a vicar prattling away during a wedding service, but to have three Church heavyweights officiating must be a nightmare. From left to right they are: the Very Reverend John Hall Dean of Westminster Abbey, Dr Rowan Williams Archbishop of Canterbury, the Right Honourable Right Reverend Richard Chartres Lord Bishop of London (29/4/11). The Lord Bishop was at Cambridge University with Prince Charles and confirmed William and, only a couple of weeks ago, Kate, who has never been a regular churchgoer. Good for her. The Lord Bishop is so in with the royals that Lambeth Palace was starting to panic that the Archbishop would be excluded from the wedding service (title link). Pity he wasn't. Dr Williams has such a fruity thespian voice that he always seems like an old ham going for an Oscar, and when he spouts platitudes he turns his speech into farce. Still, he managed to tie the knot without my falling about laughing. And Kate pulled her tight-fitting wedding ring over her knuckle to help William get it on. He obviously didn't want to hurt her; but she is very determined.
