Model Church

This rare example of the silversmiths' craft comes up for auction in The Gentleman’s Library Sale at Bonhams in Knightsbridge on 29 January. The detailed and realistic Model of St Mark’s Church in Bromley, Kent, was presented to Sir Thomas Charles Dewey for his services as church warden, dated 1905. The bell tower features a miniature clock which can be wound by opening the front door and portico of the model. The real church was heavily bombed in an air raid during WWII. The model shows it as it was before the bombing, between 1898 and 1941. The model's estimated value is £8,000 to £12,000 (CLICK).
