British Marine Art

This year the Royal Society of Marine Artists celebrates its 60th anniversary. The President of RSMA is Geoff Hunt, who paints the excellent, atmospheric cover art for the Patrick O'Brian seafaring novels and Julian Stockwin's historical novels about Thomas Kydd. This gives you some idea of the quality of artwork by RSMA members. Unlike the Anti Art Establishment, book publishers are hard-headed businessmen who demand high quality representational cover art for their best-selling authors. The RSMA Annual Exhibition, subtitled Celebrating the Sea 1946 - 2006, will be at the Mall Galleries, London, from 18 to 29 October 2006. There will be over 300 pictures on display, including works from the 1946 exhibition by founder members and recent work from a members' visit to Devonport Dockyard by invitation of the Royal Navy.
