The Green Vault

Moor statue (1720s) photo Dresden State Art CollectionsThe BBC News website is showing photos of The Green Vault, one of Europe's finest treasure collections, to celebrate its reopening in Dresden on 15 September, after 68 years. Worth a look, but it all seems rather tasteless and OTT to me, like some old crone plastered with make-up and jewellery. Talk about conspicuous consumption! Note the subservient role of the "Moor", offering emerald ore to Europe.
