Winnie-the-Pooh
He's made it! Despite Disney's feeble imitations, that bear with very little brain Winnie-the-Pooh, brilliantly illustrated by E.H. Shepherd, has achieved iconic status by making it into the latest additions to Icons: A Portrait of England, funded by Culture Online. There are now 74 icons. This should reach 100 by the end of 2006. Click the title link to visit Icons' Winnie-the-Pooh page. Nominations are still open. Rupert Bear needs your vote if that other great children's illustrator Alfred Bestall is to join Shepherd on the list of English treasures.
