A New London Gallery

Louis T Blouin (photographer unknown)Now here's an attractive portrait, albeit a photograph. This is the lady behind the recently opened Louis T Blouin Institute in Holland Park, London. Its inaugural exhibition is James Turrell: A Life in Light, which continues until 28 February 2007. It's a bummer: large featureless blocks of illumination, boring to the eye and a waste of electricity. Having seen Louis interviewed on BBC London News, I can tell you she has high ideals, worthy aims and great hopes for her institute, but charging £10 admission to see a feeble light show is a non-starter. The problem is that wealthy people tend to be surrounded by sycophants who tell the boss what they think he or she wants to hear (Coxsoft Art suffers from it all the time). A radical rethink is needed if this new institute is to succeed and not merely to waste lots of money. One scrap of good news: kids and silver surfers get in free. Louis, you're a doll. Now give us an exhibition worth visiting.
