Citizens and Kings

Jacques-Louis David - Assassination of Marat (1793)Yesterday, a new exhibition opened at the Royal Academy of Arts, London: Citizens and Kings: Portraits in the Age of Revolution, 1760 - 1830, which continues until 20 April 2007. It looks at the shift in portraiture from kings and their fluff to the new citizen-heroes spawned by revolutions in Europe and America. The RA's idiotic pricing strategy - presumably invented by a neurotic accountant with learning difficulties - is even more interesting than the exhibition. One hour costs:
Adult @ 10.00 each
Senior @ 8.00 each (80%!)
Student @ 7.00 each
Unwaged @ 3.00 each
Income Support @ 3.00 each
The Art Fund @ 8.00 each (?)
12-18 years @ 2.80 each
8-11 years @ 1.80 each
7 years and under free
Disabled (carer goes free) @ 8.00 each
Add £1 booking fee if you book online.
Hey, RA! What about people who receive council tax benefit, but who don't qualify for income support? And what's a "Senior": an over 60 or a pensioner? Come on, give us some more categories! What about nursing mothers, pearly kings and queens, paperboys...?
