Tate Modern's Future Pile
Tate Modern has commissioned Doris Salcedo to create something to fill space in its Turbine Hall. The "something" will probably be an ugly pile of old chairs, similar to this mess (illustrated) which she inflicted on Istanbul in 2003. Such a ludicrous commission must raise questions about the sanity of those responsible. Doris clearly needs beginner's lessons in chair-stacking art from that young Canadian artist Brian Jungen who wowed everyone at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal last year. Ah! An above ground "landfill site". Things are getting serious.
Oh, why didn't I think of that for a description? That's exactly what it looks like. What about a massive Steptoe & Son junk cart caught between two buildings? The lads were doing well with chairs that day.
