Chestburster Winner
Did you spot the recent BBC News item on Empire movie magazine's 18th birthday list of top 18-rated moments in film? The vomit-flying chestburster scene from Alien, when John Hurt's alien parasite bursts out of his chest, glances round and flashes away, was named the greatest 18-certificate movie moment (title link). No mention from Aunty of the brilliant artist who designed the entire movie: sets, spacecraft, alien, cocoons, egg silos, chestburster. Typical BBC: clueless about art. H. R. Giger is the man. Ironically, the chestburster is the main departure from his original designs. He envisaged it as a soft parasite, a plucked chicken with teeth, but when it bursts out....
