Indian Obscenity Update

India's Supreme Court has stayed the arrest warrant and seizure of possessions imposed by a lower court against painter Maqbool Fida Husain, who failed to turn up for a hearing on obscenity charges (CLICK). With five other obscenity charges pending against him in Delhi, the Supreme Court is considering transferring the latest case there. Six obscenity trials for one painting seems more like persecution than justice. Anyway, Husain is rich enough to give Delhi a two-fingers salute from his hideaway in the Middle East. So why worry?
