Damien Hirst's Skull

Damien Hirst - For The Love of God (2007)It's Mr Self-Promotion again, this time with a diamond-encrusted skull that cost £14m to make and is up for grabs for a mere £50m ($100m). For a real work of art see the beautiful crystal skull in the Museum of Mankind. Moneybags' tosh is merely 8,601 diamonds weighing in at 1,106.18 carats on an 18th century skull bought in a London shop. Sparkly, but boring. For The Love of God is the centrepiece of his new exhibition Damien Hirst: Beyond Belief (that's true) at the White Cube Gallery, London, from 3 June to 7 July 2007. Admission is by ticket only (title link). Yawn.

Funny my friend told me she heard about this on npr this morning but didn't know who the artist was. For some odd reason I brought up Hirst and how it doesn't matter what he does ( I bet he could sell turd) it will sell because of his name. LOL! and what do you know it was him.

Shrug! Who would have guessed sticking diamonds on a skull would be such amazing art ;)

The guy certainly knows how to hit the headlines. It's supposedly the most expensive "sculpture" ever made. As it's just jewel-encrusted, I don't see how it can be classed as sculpture. If he'd sprayed it with glitter paint, it would probably look much the same, but it wouldn't have that awe-inspiring price tag.
If you ever come to London, visit that rock crystal skull I mentioned. They thought it was ancient, but it turned out to be a fake! But what a fake!
