Aussies Buy Hockney

The Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, is chuffed to have added David Hockney’s A Closer Winter Tunnel (2006) to its British 20th century collection. Er ... on this side of the planet, 2006 is the 21st century. (I guess Barry Humphries' Australian Cultural Attaché, Sir Les Patterson, wrote the blurb.) The painting consists of six canvas panels which give it the appearance of a kid's comic. It's not a patch on the chilly English landscapes of Atkinson Grimshaw.
