Historic Raj Art Sold
An historically important Indian painting from the days of the Raj caused a stir yesterday when it sold for 12 times its estimated value. Auctioned in London by Bonhams, this painting by Raja Ravi Varma fetched £602,400 ($1.24m). It shows a meeting between the Maharaja of Travancore and Richard Temple-Grenville, the then governor-general of Madras, in 1880. Looks as though it's on its way back to India.
