Turner's 'Abstracts'

JMW Turner - Seascape With Storm Coming On (c 1840)On Friday I posted a graphic of Turner's masterly Venice: The Dogana and San Giorgio Maggiore (1834) and commented on the fact that the Brit. Art Establishment tends to show us his more impressionistic works, due to its fixation on fashion, as though artists were no more than trivial TV celebrities. Is "Posh" wearing frilly knickers this season or no knickers at all? It seems the Jerry Art Establishment shares this fixation (not "Posh"'s knickers, but Turner as a fashion icon). Turner's messy Seascape With Storm Coming On (c 1840) is its proof that Turner was one of three instigators of abstract art: Turner Hugo Moreau - The Discovery of Abstraction opened yesterday. Find it in Frankfurt at the Schirn Kunsthalle. They should have stuck to making sausages.
