Life In Cold Blood

Life In Cold Blood (cover © BBC 2008)It is nearly 30 years since BBC TV screened the first of Sir David Attenborough's "Life" series: Life on Earth. Remember those killer whales beaching themselves trying to catch seals? It was a landmark TV series with Sir David's lucid and coherent script linking ground-breaking images from around the world. On Monday 4 February at 9pm BBC1 screens the first episode of Sir David's final "Life" series: Life In Cold Blood. This is a must. You might also be interested to know that Sir David will be signing copies of his book Life In Cold Blood at the Natural History Museum in London on Wednesday 27 February from 16:30 to 18:00 hours ... er ... 4.30pm to ... er ... 6pm (CLICK).

"Sir David's final "Life" series.."

Surely you mean "Latest"?

Sadly I do mean "final". Sir David doesn't intend to make any more "Life" series (I saw an interview on TV and also read an interview with him), although he will be making more nature programmes for TV. And long may he do so.

Each "Life" series takes years to make, and I think Sir David is now 81. So he might feel he would be pushing his luck to embark on another major series. Sad thought, but sensible and responsible. Also, he's covered a huge amount of natural history in the "Life" series.

He's done voice-overs for various nature programmes such as "Blue Planet" & "Wildlife on 2", so we haven't heard the last of him. But it seems as though he intends to limit himself to one-off programmes and stop making major series.
