Matthew Carr

If you like monochrome, Marlborough Fine Art (London) will be showing Matthew Carr: New Works from 24 June to 19 July. This artist works with conté pencil on prepared charcoal paper, as in his Nude (2008) shown here. The title link takes you to an online gallery of Carr's exhibits. Despite his obvious talent, I must admit I find it all rather grey and depressing.

Hugely disagree I think this picture is magnificent. The artist is yes hugely talented but also evokes such emotions in me. Without dark there is no light.

I'd forgotten all about this post. At least we agree that Matthew is talented. But I've seen too many black-and-white photos of nudes for this work to make much impression on me. It's a throwback to 1960's "art" photos. I'd like to see what he can do with trois crayons. (I published a post on this medium a few weeks ago.)
Without light, there is no shade.

Sorry, all I can do is not publish it. Send it again under Anon.
