Lowry's Farm
An unusual L.S. Lowry painting The Farm (1955) fetched £276,000 at a Bonhams auction in London. No matchstick men, no smoky industrial landscape, no Lowry "look", just an incompetent pastoral scene which reveals his limitations as an artist. Without a "name" attached to it, this painting wouldn't have been worth a second glance. Granny with her Pet Mouse by Beryl Cook, who died this year (CLICK), fetched a world record price for the artist of £69,600 at the same auction.
