John Constable is famous for his landscapes, but he also painted portraits of friends and family. This painting is of Maria Bicknell, Constable's wife. From 5 March to 14 June the National Portrait Gallery in London will be showing Constable Portraits: The Painter and His Circle. This is the first exhibition to focus on Constable's portraits. It will be in the Porter Gallery, tickets £5, concessions £4.50/£4. Oh come on, NPG meanies: let's have half price for silver surfers and kids. Their having free travel in London is no reason to rip them off.
