Designer Crafts

I loathe that term "designer" which is inappropriately applied to all sorts of goods from jeans to spectacles. Every product needs to be designed. So the term merely gives the manufacturer a feeble excuse to hoick the price. We'll have designer baked beans next. So the Designer Crafts exhibition, run by the Society of Designer Craftsmen, which opens at the Mall Galleries in London tomorrow, leaves me cold. So does the admission price: £4. I wonder if Susie Vickery's Wangdu - Tibetan Tailor (detail shown) is a designer craftsman or just a tailor.
