Gormley's Hellraiser
On the left is a better graphic of Antony Gormley's Transport (2011) than the one I posted in January (CLICK). This one shows the statue suspended above the site of the first tomb of Archbishop Thomas Becket, who was murdered in Canterbury Cathedral in 1170. On a second look, I still can't see this work as symbolizing anything other than Pain. It reminds me of that sado-masochistic Pinhead with nails protruding from his skull in Clive Barker's horror movie Hellraiser (1987). So I've put the two together. Gormley's hellraiser stripped would be more appropriately displayed in the London Dungeon (CLICK) than in Canterbury Cathedral.
