Smart Move

Here's another of those irritating bought-for-peanuts-sells-for-small-fortune stories. This uninspiring oil painting Athenian Suburb by Frank Jeffrey Edson Smart was bought for £65 in 1964 and fetched £82,000 ($132,000) at a recent Bonhams auction in Australia. Daniel Wright of Bonhams spotted it in a cottage near Bury St Edmunds, England. The auction house decided the painting would fetch its best price in Australia, because Smart is Australian. Smart move.
