Gandhi Gay?

Pulitzer Prize-winning US author Joseph Lelyveld has recently published Great Soul: Mahatma Gandhi and His Struggle With India, in which he suggests that the young Gandhi had an intimate relationship with a German-Jewish bodybuilder named Hermann Kallenbach. Gandhi is revered in India as the father of freedom from British rule. Even though Lelyveld's book hasn't yet been published in India, it has already been banned by the assembly of Gandhi's native state Gujarat. The vote was unanimous. Gandhi's great-grandson Tushar Gandhi opposes the ban (CLICK). Lelyveld denies accusing Gandhi of anything, but as a vastly experienced journalist and former editor of The Now York Times, he must have known how the killer quote about cotton-wool and Vaseline would be interpreted! One way to guarantee a best-seller is to stir up enough controversy to get it banned somewhere.
