Child with a Dove

One of the paintings on loan for Tate Britain's current Picasso exhibition is going to be sold by its owners, the Aberconway family in Wales. Picasso's Child with a Dove (1901) was painted when he was around 19 years old and you can tell he had no future as an artist unless he conned the art world into believing he was some kind of genius. Today it's worth about £50m ($79m). The nation can't afford it. So it's bound to go to a foreign buyer when Christie's flogs it. Oh, hard cheese.
