Lost Harris Hawk
Have you seen this hawk?
His name is Rufus and he is a four-year-old harris hawk used to scare pigeons away from the All England Lawn Tennis Club at Wimbledon, so the pesky birds don't interfere with the tennis championships. He was stolen from a car on Thursday night, together with his travel box, a falconry glove and hood. The manufacturer of the travel box, Falcon Fabrication, was telephoned on Friday to report the box found in Southfields with an "eagle" inside it. Unaware that Rufus had been stolen, the recipient of the call referred the finder to the RSPCA or the police. Wimbledon CID are now investigating (CLICK). Harris hawks come from southwestern USA and as far down as Argentina. They are the only raptor known to hunt in family groups (CLICK). In the meantime, Hector has been drafted in to keep Centre Court clear.
Rufus found and back with his owner (CLICK).
