The Panoramic River
I recently mentioned the Hudson River School in a post on the National Gallery's Terra-backed exhibition of oil sketches by Frederic Church (CLICK). Yesterday the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers, New York, opened The Panoramic River: the Hudson and the Thames, which traces large-scale panoramic landscapes from Britain to the United States through an influx of English artists such as Robert Havell Jr (CLICK). Shown is Hudson River North to Croton Point (1851) by Robert Havell Jr. The exhibition juxtaposes views of the Thames and Hudson rivers to display this Anglo-American heritage. Paintings from museums, galleries and private collections across America have been gathered for the show, which I suspect would do as well in London as in New York. Terra, please take note.
