Whale Uncovered

Yale graduate Shan Kuang, now studying for a Postgraduate Diploma in Conservation of Easel Paintings at the Hamilton Kerr Institute - a division of the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge -, was given the task of cleaning Hendrick van Anthonissen's View of Scheveningen Sands (c. 1641) and discovered an overpainted beached sperm whale! The restored painting is now on display at the Fitzwilliam Museum in its collection Masterpieces of the Dutch Golden Age (CLICK). View the Museum's TouTube video in which the charming Shan Kuang explains her discovery.
