Audrey Hepburn

Recognise the cigarette girl? If not, you will as soon as she speaks. Watch the YouTube video.

She was still playing bit parts in 1951 when Laughter in Paradise was made. She became a much-loved star and fashion icon. The National Portrait Gallery in London is already taking bookings for Audrey Hepburn: Portraits of an Icon, which doesn't open until 2 July 2015. The exhibition is a celebration of the life and career of this Oscar-winning British actress, from West End chorus girl, through Hollywood stardom, to her later humanitarian work. The departure of Sandy Naime as Director of the National Portrait Gallery may have something to do with the early announcement of this exhibition, a parting flourish so to speak. Under his leadership the NPG has doubled its number of visitors. CLICK to view more photos. Standard tickets cost £9 adults, £7.50 silver surfers (CLICK).
