Evolution

With only one day left before voting in the most tedious general election ever, political leaders are bombing up and down the country to carefully managed photo shoots to gather a few more votes. Only 48 hours to go before we all wake up to a hung Parliament. The bar chart doesn't predict the results. If your browser is set to 125%, you should be able to read the country names. The chart shows the Public Acceptance of Evolution (Science Magazine 2006). Yes to Evolution is in blue, Unsure is in fawn and No is in red. It's a rough guide to how the insane fantasies of Creationism still hold sway over populations. The UK is in 6th place. The USA is close to the bottom; only Turkey (a Muslim country) is below it. According to the Office For National Statistics, the 2011 Census revealed that "14.1 million people, around a quarter of the population in England and Wales, reported they have no religion...." That's an increase from 14.8 per cent of the population to 25.1 per cent since 2001 (CLICK). It's a quarter of the population! Yet we still demand acts of worship in all our schools and no party offers us a choice.
