Penny Black

You may have noticed that today's Google Doodle is celebrating the 175th birthday of Britain's Penny Black, the first postage stamp in the world. (It's why we don't have to put the country of origin on our stamps.) The House of Illustration decided to celebrate this landmark anniversary by inviting artists from around the world to send in their decorated and embellished envelopes. Shown is Sharon Hannah's contribution to this birthday celebration. The exhibition Pushing the Envelope runs from 6 to 16 May (CLICK).
