Ashmolean Appeal

The Ashmolean Museum has launched a public appeal to raise the final £60,000 needed to acquire JMW Turner's The High Street, Oxford (1810). The painting has been on loan to the Ashmolean since 1997. It has now been offered to the nation in lieu of £3.5 million inheritance tax, but the estate wants £860,000 change, 90 per cent of which has already been secured.
