Disney's Black Princess

Disney's MaddyHere's a first for Disney: a black princess. Maddy is the star of Disney's next animated fairy tale The Frog Princess, an Afro-American girl living in New Orleans' French quarter. Disney seems to be hedging its bets on this innovation by abandoning computer graphics and returning to traditional hand-drawn animation. As Disney has enjoyed hits with Chinese, Indian and Egyptian cartoon characters, why not an Afro-American? About time, you might think, especially when you recall that Walt Disney's first cartoon hero was a black mouse! You'll have to wait until 2009 to see the completed feature film.

Thanks Disney for coming around, but thank GOD for Fat Albert and the Black Chick on JC and the Pussycats. There are two AA Fathers out of philly who because they did not feel there was enough positive diverse programming out there for, created an awesome hip, witty and educational animated series titled Teddy P Brains ( it is this generation's Fat Albert!!) it will make history! Saying all this to say, thanks disney for sprinkling hershey's chocolate cocoa powder fairydust on one of your princesses but lets support the little guys who are making a difference www.teddypbrainstv.com !

Er...yeah...right on, man. And don't forget Mildred D. Taylor. Have you read "Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry"?
And what did you think of my black Mrs Mop?

Hi, Evorgleb
Thanks for the link. I'll check it out tomorrow.
I must admit I never thought Minnie Mouse was much of a role model: those clumpy shoes! Let's hope the Frog Princess doesn't carry a knife. We've got enough knife-carrying schoolgirls in London already (and boys)! Naw, Disney wouldn't do that, not with a princess.
