Gordon Dick v Transcom
Here's a story to warm the heart of everyone who receives spam. Gordon Dick recently took Transcom Internet Services Ltd to a sheriff court in Edinburgh for sending him unwanted e-mail advertising. He was granted a decree in absence - Transcom failed to appear in court - and was awarded £750 in damages plus legal costs of £616.66. Nice one, Gordon! The Scottish sheriff courts are the equivalent of England's small claims courts, which are the only courts in which ordinary Brits can hope to obtain justice without risking bankruptcy. We can represent ourselves and, as the highest award is £1000, the defending firm may well choose to avoid the cost of greedy lawyers by not defending the case. Gordon has set up his own Scotch Spam website (title link). To read the BBC version, which accuses China and the USA, click HERE. I've blocked US video porn and Viagra spams, haven't had any problem with China, but can't block the Yambo Financials Spam Gang, which sends me one a day. Hi, lads. The above finger is mainly for you!
