Picasso's Carmen

P. Esperon - Femme à la mantille (Woman in a mantilla) posterHard-core Picasso fans will find 220 of his works being exhibited at the Musée Picasso in Paris: Picasso Carmen - Sol & Sombra (Sun & Shade) until 24 June 2007. This show explores Picasso's obsession with the heroine of the novella Prosper Mérimée (1845) whom Georges Bizet brought to life in his wonderful opera Carmen (1875). When art galleries try to pull in the punters for a worthwhile exhibition, they normally use one of the artist's exhibits on the poster to advertise the show. What does Musée Picasso do? It displays an attractive embroidered postcard by another artist: P. Esperon! This says it all.
